"Great value for a very good product" 2009-04-13

I've been using the rack for over two months now. It's robust enough to keep your bike safe and the padded areas provide protection for your car surface. Very good product at a great value, highly recommended.

"You get what you pay for" 2009-02-03
By Shawn C. Beeks (Philadelphia, PA)
I bought this rack for $35.00 to fit a VW Jetta. It held up well enough to haul two road bikes, but I wouldn't advise this product for mountain bikes. It may be a little awkward to get your bikes own initially, but once you figure out the best way to load them, the rack works out pretty well.

 "Just doesn't work for 2 bikes" 2008-12-28
By Todd Stephens (Lakeland, FL United States)
The red holders in the picture slide back and forth on the tubes making it very difficult to strap-down a bike. They are not far enough apart, either. I could not fit 2 26" mountain bikes on the rack. There just wasn't enough room. It's not very accommodating to different frames either. One of the two bikes I have is my daughter's and has a woman's style frame with the top tube going down at a steep angle from the head tube to the seatpost. I had to use the bottom tube of the bike to mount it in the rack, and it made the bike sit at a ridiculous angle.

I'm going to get a roof rack, I think. I plan on buying some kayaks next year anyway so the roof rack will be better for those anyway.

 "Works as advertised" 2010-01-02
By A. Grosz (Oklahoma)
Product worked very well and was fairly easy to mount. We got the 2 bike version but only mounted one bike and it rode very well, even though the car was very small. Due to our car geometry (Nissan Sentra) and large size of bike, we had to use the outer cradle to mount the bike as the inner cradle put the bike up against the trunk lid. However, we use ours only for one bike and it worked great. Made a 200 mile round trip with it and had no problems whatsoever.

"Great bike rack at a good price" 2009-08-29
By C. Harrington (Michigan)
Transports our bikes perfectly. The bikes have not gotten marred and they do not sway at all. Held securely in place during our 500 mile trip. Not a single problem with this bike rack at all. I would highly recommend this to anyone thinking about getting a bike rack.

"Not a very good quality rack." 2009-07-12
By Zachariah R. Hubbell (Santa Barbara, CA)
I purchased this rack from my local bike shop about a year and a half ago. I liked that it was adjustable (I have a Nissan Maxima with a spoiler, which it just barely clears), and that it was cheap. I used it for a while with just one bike on it, and had no problems... at first.

A few months ago, I had my bike and my girlfriend's on it to go to the Grand Canyon from Santa Barbara, CA, which is about a 7 hour drive. On the way there, the saddles of the rack began to shift a bit on the poles they are attached to. I thought nothing of it until the drive home, when the bike in the rear-most position began wobbling noticeably in my rear-view mirror. I pulled over, and found that the saddles were slipping down the poles, working their way toward the ends. I had to take the bikes off three times on the drive and wrestle the saddles back to their normal positions. On a recent 10-hour drive, I had to tie my bike's seat post to the vertical pole on the rack so it wouldn't do the same thing. I no longer trust the rack with more than one bike on it, especially since I came home from the Grand Canyon with fresh pedal scratches all over the back of my car.

Another thing is that the rubber straps became too stretched out and began popping off their attachments. Another problem is that the weight of two bikes caused the rack to make a big depression in my bumper, which luckily popped out again once the bikes came off. You also can't really open your trunk with a bike on the rack, because you have to slam it really hard to get it to latch again with the rack hitting the bumper.

To sum up, I really don't like this rack, and I wish I had a trailer hitch or roof racks so I could get a real bike rack. Hollywood sucks.

"Works great on my 2008 Elantra" 2009-06-04
By Benjamin N. Dilts
Just a few minutes of fiddling got this mounted sturdily onto the trunk of my 2008 Elantra. It feels really secure, and my bike hardly jiggles at all, even at highway speeds. I can open my trunk with the rack attached, even with my bike on it!

The straps are much longer than I needed (to support bigger cars/SUVs), but I'm just going to cut them shorter.

Best trunk-mounted bike rack I've ever used (of course it can't compare with hitch-mounted ones).

"Great Rack, Best for the Money!" 2009-05-15
By G. Johnson
I have used some of my friend's more expensive racks and really cannot see what makes them cost so much more. I use this rack on a 2000 Acura TL and it fits perfectly without leaving any dents or scratches. This rack is very sturdy, reliable, and setting it up for your car takes but a minute. The one thing about this rack is that I don't think it could hold two bikes. Not because it can't handle it, but because the second bike might be too close to your car if not on your car. That is just my observation. I have not had the need nor do I think I will have the need to use two bikes on it, but, if you do, then you might want to look around and see how it will fit on your car because two bikes would not fit on mine. Nonetheless, I give this rack five stars because it performs very well and covers my needs perfectly. It is just as sturdy and reliable as the higher priced racks so don't waste your money on anything else, this rack will do everything you need it to. I am very happy with it.

"Looks great but has problems" 2009-08-22
By Mr Roberts (Iowa City, IA USA)
This bike rack mounted to my 2008 Accord which has a spoiler and fit great. Once strapped on it was very sturdy and felt like it was part of the car. The bike rack looks really amazing and is very stylish and functional. The problems I have with it are:

1. The straps slip some and become a little loose while traveling and I had to tighten them every hour or two on my 12 hour drive to Colorado.

2. The two bike bikes are so close together that they rubbed frames and took the paint off the bikes forks and back frame. There needs to be more spacing between the two mounting areas, I would by the Quickback 3 for my two bikes so there could be some space inbetween the two bikes.

3. I bought this rack because I wanted a really good rack with good padding that wouldn't scratch my new car. I made sure I washed the car and cleared any dust etc from the trunk before I mounted it but at the end of the trip there were big scuffed square marks on my truck where all the pads rested. Now I need a new paint job on my trunk as using scratch remover didn't work!

In conclusion, I wouldn't buy this rack again mainly because it scratched my new car all up. The people in Colorado are smart and all got trailer hitches installed on their cars and have hitch mounted racks. I didn't see 1 single trunk mounted rack there! Spend the extra $ on getting a trailer hitch installed and hitch mounted rack. In the end it will be cheaper than having to get a new paint job!

 "Great bike rack!" 2009-07-06
By Eddy Martinez (Goodyear, AZ USA)
This rack is easy to install, once you get the straps adjusted once it is off and on in about a minute. It is compact so it is easy to store when not in use. Taken a few trip on the freeway and the rack was very stable with one or two bikes. Quality constructions, I looked at other manufacturers and their racks seemed a little weak or flimsy. Would recommend this to all my friends.

This is a great product. It was recommended to me by an avid biker friend of mine. The Quick Back is exactly that--quick...and sturdy. I'm 5' 2" and drive a Rogue, and I have absolutely no trouble setting it up or taking it down. The straps are sturdy as well as the mount itself. I got it at a GREAT price on Amazon ($76 less than the Yakima website) plus free shipping.

"Perfect for my Townie bike" 2009-08-28
By Kay (Michigan)
This is a great bike rack for the back of my Subaru Forester. It fits my Electra Townie bike perfectly and I don't have to lift the bike up too high. At first the side straps kept slipping down until (duh!) I figured out that they have to be attached higher on the trunk where they will not slip. This rack is very easy to put on and take off.

"Does what it is supposed to do, well." 2010-01-21
By Greg F. Riegler (Pensacola, FL USA)
I really wanted to go with a roof rack option, so as to not limit myself to just toting a bike or 2 on the back of my car, but price to price - the rack system was out of the budget at the time being (around $500). I've only carried 1 bike on this rack so far and it is a road bike (light weight) - but the way the pads are on this unit help to spread the weight without denting the trunk. I have a 2009 Corolla S with Spoiler, and the curved arms when attached look as if it was designed for spoilers in mind. it fits perfectly. The rack stay stable, and doesn't shift or slide.

Pros:

*Assembles onto trunk in less than 15 minutes first time use.

*Reattaches to Trunk in less than 5 minutes every time after first.

*Folds down for storage.

*Padded rubber feet are broad and don't scratch.

*Metal clasps are covered with rubber so if you drop on car wont scratch.

*Metal hooks are coated so they don't scratch or rust.

Cons:

*Straps to secure bike to the rack are pull-tight rubber - which I can see over time wearing out and breaking.

Overall I'm satisfied, and haven't had any issues with this rack at all.

"Best bike rack I have ever owned!" 2009-10-10
By S. Lolar (Detroit, MI)
Having gone through many permutations of cars, I have owned 3-4 bike racks in my lifetime. This has been the best so far. It was EASY to put it on our Ford Escape. After some fussing with the straps, it attached quickly and easily. It took my about 20 minutes the first time, 10-15 the second time. And it was *solid*. I hated previous bike racks that would sway back and forth. Not this one. Loading the bikes on was easy. The bikes did not rub against one another, nor did a wheel/pedal scratch up my car. Great design....The arms that hold the bike fold up when not in use. Also could still open the hatch on the Ford Escape with the rack in place.

Lastly, our local bike store showed us that tying a knot in the straps below the buckle actually would prevent any slipping of the buckle. Also helps deals with any flapping straps. Also showed us to use some extra strap to tie TO the bike, as an extra measure.

Highly recommend this bike rack.

"I drove 2800+ miles with two bikes caked in ice and snow with this rack." 2009-01-31
By Jason
I drove cross country with two bikes, pretty much through the worst conditions possible. This rack never loosened or gave me any doubt as to the security of my bikes. It had no problem supporting the extra weight from the ice that caked up on the bikes, and it was a considerable amount of weight.

To the "fatal flaw" review: Give me a break. This rack works great.

 "Bike Rack works fine" 2008-11-24
By Ralph Shafer (Florida)
This is about the only bike rack that would fit my Ford Escort hatchback. It works fine if you make sure every strap is tight. However, it doesn't instill confidence since it sways slightly on turns and bumps. Also, Florida just passed a law that you can't obscure your rear license plate and this does.

"Saris Sentinel 2-bike Trunk Mount Rack" 2009-08-28
By Gregory A. Wall (Indiana)
I bought this rack in order to pick up a bicycle 160 miles away. I went to the Saris web site where they were able to tell me what rack to use for my car. The Sentinal 2-Bike Trunk Mount Rack easily and firmly fit on my 2009 Pontiac G6. My only comment is that I wish it had come with more tie-downs to better immobilize the bike. A couple of over-sized Velcro cable ties worked just fine.

My other concern was whether this rack would scratch the paint on my car. The foam pads did a nice job of protecting the trunk and the plastic coated hooks left no evidence of the rack on the car. The rack easily breaks down to store in its original box. It was a good investment. I'm sure I'll use it again for other long distance trips with my bike.

"Not for more than one bike" 2009-03-07
By M. Gallegos (Bangkok Thailand)
Have used this model for about six months now, the retaining straps on the top bars slide to the end during longer trips. If you put two bikes on the rack the top bar can bite into the trunk top if you have a sedan and leave a dent. Not meant for heavier bikes or long trips. I have upgraded to the stronger Saris Bones 2 model. Now I can carry two bikes and have no more problems with bikes shifting or loose straps.

 "Good for the price" 2009-02-12
By zd
I got this because it was pretty cheap and it fits on a ford focus hatchback. It works fine with one full sized mountain bike but I think the 2 bike capacity must be for road/kids bikes. It works fine for short distances but I would not be very comfortable using this on a road trip without having to frequently stop and make adjustments. I also recommend bungee cords in addition to the straps to hold your bike in place.

Customer Buzz
 "Quite Functional" 2009-01-29
By W. Huber
My old bike rack was a cheap Allen model that only had one set of straps. Because of this, the lighter end of the bike rack would often lift up while in transit. This bike rack has the benefit of two sets of straps, so the bikes are much more secure. The plastic clip-in tie downs are nice, too.

My only thought is that, if you have the money to spend, get the three bike model, even if you're only transporting two. It is my understanding that the three bike model has an extra set of straps that eliminate shaking and wobbling even more (yes, when carrying two bikes, there is still some wobble when traveling at highway speeds). Also, it is a challenge to tie in both mine and my girlfriend's bikes, so longer rails would be nicer (because of the geometry of her bike, my handlebars hit in to her pannier rack, and I can't easily get the top tube to sit in the holders). Of course, if you're just transporting two road bikes without wide handlebars, you probably won't have a problem.

 "bikes fell off!!!" 2008-11-11
By Qbird
So, I'm pretty handy and I couldn't believe I didn't pull down on this rack hard enough to alert me because I drove through an intersection and looked in my rearview only to be greeted by nothing...the bikes fell off and I stopped immediately. The top straps did not hold tight, they were already threaded as I was told it "was ready to go". Once I tied the loose ends it worked fine and I was so glad to run into g & dj, who got me back on my feet. Once we tied the ends the rack worked great. I'm taking it back to the store that sold it to me to ask if the clasp is working as it should. My 2 cents.

 "Good so far" 2009-10-12
By BurtReynolds (Northern Virginia)
I purchased this rack from REI (couldn't wait for Super Saver Shipping, and shipping costs made it about the same price) for taking two mountain bikes down on a vacation. Putting it together is easy, putting it on and adjusting it took a bit of time, but I was also a bit paranoid about releasing two bikes into traffic on I-95. I had it strapped to an '05 Nissan Xterra and over the course of a five-hour or so, mostly highway driving, the bikes didn't move at all. When I stopped for gas halfway through the trip, the rack didn't even require any tightening. It was a tight fit getting both bikes on there, and I had to adjust the mounts to push them closer to the truck. One of the bikes is a GT, and the way the frame is below the seat post (the "triple triangle" design I believe they called it) made it not fit too snugly, but the strap and anti-sway bracket did a good job securing the bike.

I didn't notice any damage to the paint, which was the only thing that worried me about the rack. Overall, I would recommend the rack.

"Works, but scratched my bike" 2009-01-31
By K. MCHALE (Pasadena, CA United States)
Well-built rack that fits well on my car (although not using the setting that the manual suggested). I used this to transport my Cannondale road bike across the country. Unfortunately, the plastic piece that straps onto the downtube to keep the bike from swaying put some serious scratches in my bike's paint, wearing it all the way to the shiny aluminum below. Pretty disappointing. If you use this rack, I suggest putting a small towel, like a washcloth, between the downtube and the stabilizer piece.

Took me about 20-30 mins. to figure out how this thing went on my Corolla. It got my bike home from the store which was about 6 miles from there I live but I was terrified that the rack was going to fall off if I hit a big bump b/c it only clips onto the trunk. I guess all are made like this but I'm not sure, I always thought the straps wrapped entirely around the trunk and went through the inside. I also had to purchase a bar at the bike shop to get my bike on the rack b/c the women's frame will not fit on the rack without that bar - $34.00 I was not expecting to spend. :-(
