"Lock falls out of rack" 2009-09-15
By Michael Basista
The lock works well to secure only the bike in the first spot. But, when the rack is folded down, the lock can fall out of the rack and drag on the ground causing the lock core to fall out onto the highway and disappear forever. I had to buy a replacement and I have resorted to wrapping the lock around the main support and then locking it in place.

 "Make a pit-stop without worry" 2009-08-02
By B. Scates (Tampa, FL)
So, you're getting ready to go on an incredible cross-country trip but worry that at each fast food restaurant, gas station, or rest area stop someone will have to stay behind to watch over your bikes, especially if it's late at night or in a rough part of town. The cable is long enough to wrap around the top frames of two or more bicycles (depending on the carrier you choose). When not in use, the cable slides down into the hollowed-out tube of the Yakima carrier and stays in place until you need it again. As an additional plus, when I ordered this cable lock with the locking hitch pin as a set, I was able to use the same key to access both locks. The only way you could beat this system is with a cable cutter, but that is probably highly unlikely to happen. This item is a great anti-theft deterrent and I do recommend it.

 "Simple and effective" 2009-05-04
By TWM (Bay Area, CA)
This lock won't safe guard your wheels, but it will keep your bike attached to your rack and slides away almost completely unseen when not in use. We still use another chain to keep our wheels safe, but I still recommend this lock for extra piece of mind. Well worth the price!

"WARNING: This product doesn't work for Yakima racks that fold down" 2009-05-02
By T. Beck
So I bought this lock package to protect both my bikes and my new Yakima DoubleDown rack. Unfortunately there is a HUGE design flaw with how this system works on the DoubleDown racks. Yes, you can lock the bikes to the rack and also the rack to the hitch with this product. Unfortunately, Yakima engineers didn't seem to think about securing the pivot bolt in the middle where the rack folds down. It is just as easy (if not even easier) to simply unscrew that pivot bolt and take the whole rack off as it is to take out the hitch pin. Imagine coming back to your truck to find that your bikes and rack are both gone, but the lower trailer hitch piece of the rack is still safely locked to the hitch. Seems like a very sloppy oversight to me. Go look at a demo rack in a retail store. You'll see what I mean. The pivot bolt is not protected at all, and it would take only a minute to unscrew it and be gone with the whole rack...despite both of these locks.

Attaches from the seat post to the stem of the bike creating the standard top tube of a men's style frame. Ideal for unique, women's and juvenile small frame and bikes with oversized tubes. You know the victorious photos of the lone mountain biker, having conquered the peak, raising his bike over his head in triumph? Ever wonder why you don't see more people lifting non- traditional frames? Well there is no place to grab them, if they had the Bike Beam, which connects the seatposts and handlebars to simulate the standard top tube, they'd have an easy hand hold. (A convenient bonus: the beam also makes it easy to carry non-traditional, non-diamond, frames on our B.A.T.and bones racks.)

 "Women's bike solution" 2010-02-04
By Lynn T. Manchester (Solvang, CA, US)
This makes it so easy to mount a women's step through frame bike on a car rack. The coated ends protect the bike from being scratched. My only complaint is that ist seems heavier than is necessary.

 "Flimsy" 2009-09-19
By Lohas addict (Shenyang, China)
The claws at each end don't lock securely - one of them came open while we were driving on the interstate. Luckily it stayed attached to the bike, but with worse luck the bike could have fallen onto the highway and gotten dragged or lost. I'm throwing it away and looking for something that attaches more securely to the bike posts.

"Great Device but with design flaw" 2009-09-11
By Richard L. Wood (Chesapeake, Virginia)
I received my Bike Beam this week and gave it a test. It does exactly what is advertised to do and appears well built except for a design flaw that will cause the plastic collar where the two tubes of the bike beam slide together. The molded collar has a wedge molded into the inside of the ring which rides into a grove of the smaller tube. The problem is that the end of the grove ends before the inner tube bottoms out in the outer tube. This causes the wedge of the molded ring to rise up out the groove, putting a large amount of stress on the molded ring causing it to crack and eventually causing the ring to break and fall off. I believe the purpose of this ring is to make for a smooth operation when expanding the bike beam and to prevent debris from getting in between the 2 tube walls. I can see after a period of time without the ring, the Bike Beam may become harder to put on and off the bike as the debris between the 2 tubes builds up. I have written to Saris company about this flaw, but as usual I suppose the e-mail was read by a person hired to handle first level complaints and has no understanding of what I am trying to describe to them unless they have a Beam to look at. They quickly offered to send me a new bike beam but until the design flaw is corrected, briskly contracting the the beam or jarring either end when it is fully closed will cause the ring to break again. I have no problem with the collar being cracked because I will repair it myself and as far as the beam doing what it is supposed to do, it has little effect on that unless it is left un-repaired and debris is allowed to build up. My main purpose was to make Saris aware of the problem and correct it, because the next person may not think it is as minor of an issue as I do. I would of given this Beam a 4 or 5 even with the broken piece because it is that good but I am giving it a 2 in hopes it will flag someone at Saris to take a look at this problem.
