"Bike Rack Poor Quality Finish" 2009-10-11
By Glenn C. Martinet (new jersey)
Hollywood Racks B3 Baja 3-Bike Trunk Mount Rack The rack itself has nice features that keep the bike/s firmly in place. It is easy to mount on my Kia sedona van. BUT the quality of the paint on this rack is shoddy at best. After I came home from it's first use I noticed the paint had peeled or flaked off the steel frame of the rack.

I'm not going to return it because of the inconvience of that process but will respray it with Rustoleum.

I'm very disappointed in the quality of the paint that protects this rack from the elements. My previous bike rack (Graber) is over 14yrs old and is just starting to show signs of wear. I use my bike rack all year long (at the New Jersey Shore) so it is exposed to all of the elements including the salt air.

Hollywood racks says it will fit my Mazda RX-8 but it doesn't. Talked to tech support and they couldn't help. I sold it on Craigslist for what I paid minus shipping. So I'm out $17 for shipping. I have other Hollywood racks that are great, but this just doesn't fit my car.

"Holds bikes OK but beware of your car model and bike size!" 2008-05-27
By A.C. (Phoenix, AZ)
This rack does not seem to fit on the Nissan Xterra. The bike arm and upper support bar are one piece so when we tried to position the top bar above the rear windshield wiper the bike arm slanted down towards the ground. The rear windshield wiper on the Xterra does not allow you to position the bottom arm on the bumper with clearance for the wiper at the top. Maybe the rack isn't supposed to rest on the bumper?? Despite our bikes hanging at an angle towards the ground they did seem to stay in place pretty well after hassling with all of those squirrely rubber straps. My husband's bike has a smaller frame though which was a real headache to try and force onto the rack. Sadly we will have to return this rack.

"Easy assembly and mount but not ideal for all model bicycles" 2006-06-14
By Laura Cain (biloxi, ms)
This is very sturdy. It came fully assembled in the box and it was easy to mount on my car. All it took was some adjusting of the straps. My ten speed fits well but my old Schwinn beach cruiser, which has an arched and curved frame, does not fit well. My sons bikes also didn't fit. The frames were too small and fat. This is more ideal for adult bikes with straight-angled frames.

 "Hollywood Bike rack" 2009-02-05
By Chad William Cox
The Hollywood Bike rack F6 is well built, sturdy and easy to use.

It can be adjusted to fit either of my cars and carries 3 bikes easily.

Recently used it to carry two bikes to Florida. It stayed in place the whole trip with just minor adjustments to the bottom straps at gas stops.

Cleans up easily from the nasty road salt of the winter roads. It takes just minutes to attach bikes and you are off.

I like that it secures to the vehicle nicely and the bikes were very stable. But,I bought it for BMX bikes and the width is too wide.Making it very hard to get them on and off.For mountain bikes it would be good. But not for 20" BMX bikes.

 "A Perfect Fit" 2008-04-27
By Timothy D. Gammon (Danville, Virginia)
I needed a carrier that would fit a trunk lid with a fairly large rear spoiler. The Expedition fit perfectly.Plenty of clearance over the spoiler. The saddles are very nice and hold your bike securely. The carrier also holds your bike high enough so you don't have to worry about road clearance. Installation is easy and only takes about two minutes after you get the straps adjusted for your car. I think this is a well made product and highly recommend it to anyone looking to buy a trunk mount carrier. And Amazon's price was the lowest that I could find and with free shipping too.

 "Works as advertised" 2010-01-02
By A. Grosz (Oklahoma)
Product worked very well and was fairly easy to mount. We got the 2 bike version but only mounted one bike and it rode very well, even though the car was very small. Due to our car geometry (Nissan Sentra) and large size of bike, we had to use the outer cradle to mount the bike as the inner cradle put the bike up against the trunk lid. However, we use ours only for one bike and it worked great. Made a 200 mile round trip with it and had no problems whatsoever.

"Great bike rack at a good price" 2009-08-29
By C. Harrington (Michigan)
Transports our bikes perfectly. The bikes have not gotten marred and they do not sway at all. Held securely in place during our 500 mile trip. Not a single problem with this bike rack at all. I would highly recommend this to anyone thinking about getting a bike rack.

"Not a very good quality rack." 2009-07-12
By Zachariah R. Hubbell (Santa Barbara, CA)
I purchased this rack from my local bike shop about a year and a half ago. I liked that it was adjustable (I have a Nissan Maxima with a spoiler, which it just barely clears), and that it was cheap. I used it for a while with just one bike on it, and had no problems... at first.

A few months ago, I had my bike and my girlfriend's on it to go to the Grand Canyon from Santa Barbara, CA, which is about a 7 hour drive. On the way there, the saddles of the rack began to shift a bit on the poles they are attached to. I thought nothing of it until the drive home, when the bike in the rear-most position began wobbling noticeably in my rear-view mirror. I pulled over, and found that the saddles were slipping down the poles, working their way toward the ends. I had to take the bikes off three times on the drive and wrestle the saddles back to their normal positions. On a recent 10-hour drive, I had to tie my bike's seat post to the vertical pole on the rack so it wouldn't do the same thing. I no longer trust the rack with more than one bike on it, especially since I came home from the Grand Canyon with fresh pedal scratches all over the back of my car.

Another thing is that the rubber straps became too stretched out and began popping off their attachments. Another problem is that the weight of two bikes caused the rack to make a big depression in my bumper, which luckily popped out again once the bikes came off. You also can't really open your trunk with a bike on the rack, because you have to slam it really hard to get it to latch again with the rack hitting the bumper.

To sum up, I really don't like this rack, and I wish I had a trailer hitch or roof racks so I could get a real bike rack. Hollywood sucks.

"Works great on my 2008 Elantra" 2009-06-04
By Benjamin N. Dilts
Just a few minutes of fiddling got this mounted sturdily onto the trunk of my 2008 Elantra. It feels really secure, and my bike hardly jiggles at all, even at highway speeds. I can open my trunk with the rack attached, even with my bike on it!

The straps are much longer than I needed (to support bigger cars/SUVs), but I'm just going to cut them shorter.

Best trunk-mounted bike rack I've ever used (of course it can't compare with hitch-mounted ones).

"Great Rack, Best for the Money!" 2009-05-15
By G. Johnson
I have used some of my friend's more expensive racks and really cannot see what makes them cost so much more. I use this rack on a 2000 Acura TL and it fits perfectly without leaving any dents or scratches. This rack is very sturdy, reliable, and setting it up for your car takes but a minute. The one thing about this rack is that I don't think it could hold two bikes. Not because it can't handle it, but because the second bike might be too close to your car if not on your car. That is just my observation. I have not had the need nor do I think I will have the need to use two bikes on it, but, if you do, then you might want to look around and see how it will fit on your car because two bikes would not fit on mine. Nonetheless, I give this rack five stars because it performs very well and covers my needs perfectly. It is just as sturdy and reliable as the higher priced racks so don't waste your money on anything else, this rack will do everything you need it to. I am very happy with it.

"Perfect for my Townie bike" 2009-08-28
By Kay (Michigan)
This is a great bike rack for the back of my Subaru Forester. It fits my Electra Townie bike perfectly and I don't have to lift the bike up too high. At first the side straps kept slipping down until (duh!) I figured out that they have to be attached higher on the trunk where they will not slip. This rack is very easy to put on and take off.

 "my first bick rack" 2009-09-18

Very nice bicycle rack. Attaches easily to the rear door of my 98 dodge caravan. Carrying three full size bikes would be stretching the limits of this product. Especially a far distance. I carry it with me all the time just in case.

 "Works great...a good value!" 2009-09-09
By P. Schuler (Cleveland, OH USA)
The Hollywood F1B was exactly what I wanted to carry our bikes for a recent camping trip. Easy to fit and fasten, it worked perfectly on my 2010 Fusion (with no damage to the finish, either). With just a little readjusting, it fit 3 full-size bikes. Only one has a horizontal bar, so the other two bikes rested on their angled frame pieces. The lack of individual frame clips and straps was actually an advantage for this arrangement. The mounting straps do loosen somewhat as the padding compresses, so stopping to retighten the straps after the first half-hour or so (as someone else suggested) kept everything snug and secure. Took off one star because the rack comes with only two tie-downs even though it's a 3-bike rack. I purchased 3 pairs of 2-foot long bungee cords that worked wonderfully for holding the bike frames to the rack. The center strap that goes around all three bikes is a nice extra security feature. Once tightened down, those bikes weren't going anywhere until we took them off at the campground. A good value for the money!

 "Exactly as expected." 2009-08-20
By Jeremy E. Theobald (Marietta, OH United States)
I bought this rack to make a cross-country move with my wife and son. We are planning on camping during the trip and wanted to take the bikes along for ventures to the camp store and nearby vicinity. The mounting instructions are simple to follow and the rack is easily mounted with one person and only took about five minutes (first-time mounting; now that I've gotten the hang of it, will probably even take less time.)

All in all a great product and would highly recommend for ease of use.

"Best trunk mount bike rack you'll find" 2009-08-04
By SKondris (Riverton, UT United States)
They all should be made like this. I've had two of these bike racks (ended up giving the first one to a friend, then later bought another one). They ARE virtually indestructible compared to other bike racks. This one has NO plastic parts other than the nice black sleeves to protect your bike and car from getting scratched. It's based on an extremely simple and therefore extremely strong design. I've had my latest one for over 10 years, and not a single thing has gone wrong, nor worn out, nor cracked, nor twisted, or anything.

I've been a serious biker for over 12 years and this rack has been through everything: mud, rain, snow, crazy driving w/ fast turns, and I've never had a problem.

No, it won't fit perfectly on literally every car out there, but I haven't found one yet that it won't work on. I've used it on a honda civic (hatchback), an accord, a honda odyssey minivan, a camry, a dodge dynasty, and lots of others and it's worked great on them all.

I can't say enough great things about them. They can be hard to find nowadays, it seems, but are well worth the money, especially since they're one of the cheaper racks you can get, but work way better than the expensive trunk mounts you'll find.

I used to work at a bike shop, so I've had roof mounts and tried out LOTS of different trunk mount racks. This one is by far the best you'll find as far as trunk mount racks go.

I can't say enough good things about this rack.

 "Great rack!" 2009-11-30
By David Hotaling (Upstate NY)
This rack is a great rack. It was easy to install and I can take it off and put it back on my SUV with ease. The back hatch door will open with it on, so I don't have to remove it to get in the back. I says the capacity is 4 bikes, but so far, I've only had 2 on it. It supports the 2 with ease and is very sturdy. The only recommendation I would make is to use bungee cords instead of the supplied straps to secure the bikes.

 "A sturdy product" 2009-10-23
By Shiuan-haur Lu (N. Potomac, MD USA)
This is a sturdy bike rack. You should feel safe. However I doubt it can fit four bicycles as it claims since I really have a hard time to put even three bikes. Before you purchase this rack, you also should know that this rack only comes with one strap for fastening the bike. If you plan to put more bicycles on it, you need to buy extra straps.

"Good carrier for *three* bikes." 2009-09-22
By Keith Leonard Rhodes (Bergen (NOT op Zoom))
I bought this rack based on the good reviews here on Amazon.

The rack arrived very quickly. It is well designed, sufficiently strong tubing and joints, straps and buckles. It is simple to attach to the rear door of our Toyota Highlander without needing the instructions (which are at best a distraction, anyway... see below).

The box was sufficient to protect the contents, but there was no internal packing, not even a plastic bag; had the box been subject to rough handling or rain, I am certain the rack would have arrived damaged. Luckily mine arrived in perfect condition.

It is a bit of a misnomer to describe this as a "four-bike rack"; it is a good size for carrying three bikes. Two adults' mountain bikes, one youth's bike and one child's bike is a *very* tight fit; with the handlebars turned 90 degrees and the pedals removed to take up as little space as possible, the last bike sits just at the upturned end of the horizontal bars. Four bikes is possible, but if you have pannier racks or other accessories that add to the width, you'll probably need to remove them.

You should replace the plastic wing nuts supplied with steel nuts and apply thread-locking compound, and use bungees or extra straps to anchor the bikes to the rack.

The instruction leaflet included in the box is laughable. I suspect it has been included as a legal requirement; it is no use whatsoever.

The list of compatible cars is printed in tiny pale type; barely readable. But what is the point of including this? Surely you do the compatibility research *before* buying the rack?

The instructions are out of sequence, and have you jump forward a few pages for an SUV, then back again to the beginning. The illustrations are not helpful.

Lastly, the translations into Spanish, German and French are among the worst I have ever seen. Whoever typed them could not even get the spaces in between words in the right places when copying the text to do the page layout. Abysmal.

 "Nice Rack" 2009-12-13
By Mark (Elk Grove, CA)
This is the first car bike rack I've ever purchased. I've used it once on a multi-day outing where I had to rack and unrack our two bikes several times. The rack is easy to mount and easy to make very secure and tight. The materials appear to be of high quality. We bought the three-bike mount just in case and I'm glad we did. Understandably, the company cannot custom make the racks for every combination of bikes. I would really have to cram the bikes together to get three on there and it would be a problem with pedals getting into spokes. You really have to figure out how to fit the bikes on the rack as "girls'" bikes do not have a top tube. Once you get it down for your bikes, then you simply repeat the process. The directions that came with the rack are sub par in my opinion. The pictures are small and not clear. They could easily be improved and should be. A tip, once you mount the rack and adjust it where you want it, mark the knob splines (both halves) so you can set and tighten them before you mount the rack in the future so you don't have to keep finding just the right place. Also note that the rack does not have any locking mechanism for the bikes. I used additional straps to tie off wheels so they wouldn't rotate (steer left and right) and bang into things. And, keep in mind that you won't want to open and close the trunk while the bikes are mounted so plan ahead. Overall I am well pleased with the product and it serves our purposes well.

 "Not great but works." 2009-11-30
By Lukasz
It's an OK bike rack. It works fine on a 97 Altima and just barely on a 2007 CRV. Bikes won't fall off but they do swing a bit and can scratch the car with pedals or scratch themselves if there are multiple bikes on the rack. For the price it is fine for my needs - 5 mile ride to the trails once a week. In terms of convenience, this does not come close to a roof rack and some other trunk racks are probably better.

By Victor Garcia
This rack works well.

I haven't tried to put 3 bikes on it, but I doubt it will hold them all.

It holds 2 bikes well.

I've had this for months now, and I saw another car with a roof mounted bike system. From what I saw, it seems to be the absolute best way to carry bikes. I saw a medium sized sedan carry 4 fully assemble bikes on the roof. I fell in love with that system and looked it up online, only to see that that type of system would cost over 250 dollars!!!

I don't regret buying this rack, but if you have the $$$ buy a roof rack!

Last Note: I've scratched my car up with the bikes with this rack. Load the bikes carefully!!!!
